HARTBREAK
I am visiting family here in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. I received an emergency call from a Tampa Rail supporter on my cell, however, reporting to me the shooting of the Whiting street extension by Hart. My last post will have to serve as the elaborating commentary on this matter, but it appears this decision was made as long ago as last month. For sure, I am going to have to put review of those HART board packets on a tighter rotation schedule - I never knew that the Whiting Street fund had been raided for bus service, until last night's call.
This is a grim portrayal of the confidence that HART must have in the ability to launch or contribute in the evolution of local urban rail. According to the report, however, we can certainly hope to pressure some sort of change of HART's heart in the next month.
As I am squeezing this commentary out through an iffy dialup connection, I'll leave it here. The real commentary will have to wait a few days until I get back and better analyze this situation.
Update 2/25: Oh, here's the original story reporting diversion of streetcar funds after all.
