The Tribune has run an editorial reasserting its stance against the controversial CSX deal. It is interesting that the editorial alludes to those who mistakenly believe the real issue is the fact that Orlando is "getting a commuter rail network".
Certainly here at TR that is not the case. It happens to be great that the Orlando area is getting a commuter rail system. Initially, I even heralded the deal, and heralded Jeb Bush (as far as Tampa Rail ever would I mean), on that basis alone.
My concern has always been only for the resultant configuration that leaves the Tampa area less malleable for a similar commuter rail deal with CSX, now that the company depends on our area to store its off-time traffic. It's also my angst that a governor (ex Governor Bush) involved himself so much in that arrangement while concurrently doing everything he could to prevent another commuter rail system from evolving here. Allow me to hit the repeat button.
