Get some coffee and load up WMNF's conversation with Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio. Pam has been a strong advocate of mass transit (having based her very platform on the issue of mass transit progress) and goes about as deep in her personal philosophy as I've ever heard her on the subject. She's staying thankfully focused on the starter system proposed for development between USF and Westshore, maximizing her role via TBARTA, and even recognizing anti-tax monkeys and the damage done wrought by blind no-investment ideologies.
She also goes into detail regarding her feelings on the CSX deal, too, and believes as many do, that it will make commuter rail to Tampa more difficult later if not impossible. That's a bit at odds with the optimistic prediction by Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe who pointedly indicated on WFLA radio that the Orlando commuter rail project will bring commuter rail to Tampa.
Pam is unusually passionate on the subject. It's a great opportunity to shore yourself up with confidence that Tampa's leader is looking out for transit and light rail development.
