The premiere broadcast of Wayne Garcia's Political Whore spends time on the recent indignation of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners to Mayor Pam's push for a rail referendum as early as 2010.
The light rail conversation begins at 12:04 in the broadcast.
Wayne Garcia's New Podcast.
Despite the old connotations of an ill-willed Hillsborough BOCC toward rail that this recent sparking may conjure, know that it isn't as bad as it sounds. As the podcast itself points out, most people on the board today would vote for letting Hillsborough County residents finally have a say on the issue. Think about it, the spat was over the BOCC not being approached sooner and more directly on rail, not whether it was a bad idea to pursue (save for Jim Norman, but that's only one - and not likely one enough to trump Mark Sharpe's power and charisma on the issue). It's almost like, maybe the politicians are smelling a winner in the project, and now, doing the predictable (and desirable thing from TR's point of view), which is to assert they need to be involved more. Pam shouldn't be so offended perhaps, if she ever was, than delighted.
