It's time!, it's time!, it's time at long last, it's time! This Friday, for you lucky local SOBs who have an opportunity to be on hand, is the groundbreaking for the Teco Line's first extension since opening in 2002. It is the extension that could, viably, turn the tourist line into a more capable commuter and transit line, especially for condo and apartment dwellers in Channelside and downtown.
From a recent HART mailer:
On Friday, October 9th, HART and Tampa Historic Streetcar, Inc. will celebrate the streetcar system's extension into downtown Tampa with a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future station at Franklin and Whiting Streets. The event takes place outside the YMCA at 104 S. Franklin Street in downtown Tampa starting at 11 a.m.
It's a disappointment to me to not be able to be there in person, but the web and a special push here at TR should maybe yield some exceptional freelance web media that I can link to or host right here at TR. If you are going to be at the groundbreaking, use your cell phone cameras to take videos and pictures and send the results as breathelessly as you can to tamparail@gmail.com (feel free to pre-program your devices now). Or, if you are going to host at your respective You Tube and Flickr type accounts, send me your links. I will publicize them here on the site, and to nearly 300 TR Facebook subscribers and 311 TR Twitter followers. Share the media!
Note it will be tough for me to do so until late Friday night, but I will be checking the account throughout the day. If you know you links by Friday, let me know ASAP and I can pre-publicize them here ahead of time.
