The Republican National Committee has turned down Tampa on its bid to host the next Republican National Convention. Instead, the committee chose
Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Brand new Hiawatha Light Rail line will be instrumental in moving RNC attendees Therefore I think its worth focusing on something that Minneapolis/St. Paul has that Tampa does not. They have the brand spankin' new
Hiawatha Line which is a
highly successful light rail system and which actually
connects to the airport. The Minneapolis Meeting site
promotes Minneapolis with the following:
"Minneapolis is ahead of other cities its size with a great public transportation system."
What's noteworthy about the Hiawatha line is that it experienced the usual opposition to its construction with the usual
damning rhetoric by those rabid anti-government types. History has the last laugh now since many of their seemingly well-crafted arguments of that day are laid to waste by the successful operations, like the Hiawatha, that mock them.
For now, Tampa at least got to be gracious hosts to yet another important possibility that will never happen.
